Headline: Irish Pub On Wheels

Caption: If you can't get to the pub on St Patrick's Day, how about the pub comes to you? The Shebeen is a tiny traditional Irish pub on wheels. Featuring a thatched roof and rustic exterior brick effect, the interior is decorated with the vintage-style fittings you would expect to see in an old-style Irish drinking den - including Guinness adverts, horseshoes, and even a realistic woodburner. It is the brainchild of John Walsh, a Galway, Ireland-based cabinetmaker, who got the idea while selling beer from an ordinary trailer at his local oyster festival. John and his work colleagues set to work transforming the trailer into his ideal pub. He says: "The interior woodwork is handcrafted in Irish oak, which has been stained and distressed to recreate that vintage feel. We used solid pine for the flooring and the seats, again aging the woodwork to create a vintage effect. Antique pictures, mirrors and carefully selected pub memorabilia adorn the walls, which have been papered in traditional patterned wallpaper." The idea had become so popular that John has been getting enquiries from America, and even took his pub to Boston last year for a St. Patrick's Day Parade. "I love the old Irish pubs, I love the old snugs and that feeling when you go into a cosy Irish bar. Anyone that pops into it, their first reaction is 'I love it, I want to have one'. "The authentic Irish pub experience is not easy to define - it’s magical and warm, a cosy haven on a cold winter’s eve. It’s sipping on a pint beside an open fire, deep in conversation with people you like. It’s forgetting the world and escaping to a place where nothing other than the drink in front of you and the people around your table matter. It’s banter and laughs and fun and tears." The Shebeen (www.theshebeen.com) is now available for hire for events including weddings and parties.
