Venezuela’s Delcy Rodríguez Visits India As Oil Ties Grow. Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodríguez is visiting India for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with energy expected to be a key focus. Although the discussions will cover trade, investment, healthcare and renewable energy, oil remains the most important link between the two countries. India has increased imports of Venezuelan crude in recent months as it looks to secure alternative energy supplies amid disruption to global markets. The move comes as conflict involving Iran has affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil exports. India imports around 90 percent of its oil and is seeking to diversify where it buys its energy. Venezuela became India’s fifth-largest crude supplier in May, accounting for more than five percent of total imports. The visit is expected to strengthen ties between the two countries, although no major energy deal has yet been announced.
