The village has been the scene of some of the fiercest fighting since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. It was taken by Russian troops March 2022 before being taken back by Ukrainian troops during their 2023 counteroffensive. Russian troops have been engaged in heavy attacks looking to retake the village once more. It hold strategic importance due to its position on the highway from Orikhiv to Tokmak - a route that was key to Ukrainian forces attempts to drive through Russian defences and retake the south of their country.
