The feathered fitness freak was captured on camera by wildlife photographer Tom Mason. He used a remote camera to get these amazing up-close images of the bird as it perched on a branch and stretched it's wings. London-based Tom explains: "Little Owls have always been one of my favourite birds, an introduced species they have made their home in the UK with minimal effect on native species, occupying their own niche. Having known about a pair close to where I lived, I worked using a remote camera to get a new view of these creatures through a breeding season. Positioning the camera close (within 20 cm) I was able to get some unique images of the young and parent birds within their environment. One day the youngster emerged from the nesting hole and proceeded to stretch and spreads his wings, showing off his new abilities right in front of my camera!" Little owls were introduced to the UK in the 19th century.
